Bike Trailer
Bike Trailer
Because many of the lakes I go to to fish invariably take me down some very narrow lanes I was just looking at bike trailers to load my gear onto to cycle to them.
As you might expect my first port of call has been Ebay and I was amazed to see this :
https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/372033118618?c ... 937&crdt=0
Is the price of this too good to be true or have you brought one and can advise me on just how good it is. Surely this price cannot be correct as it can cost more than that for a decent front light !

Re: Bike Trailer
I've seen similar on amazon for such prices, but they go up and down and I've noticed a steep rise in just a few months.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/vidaXL-Bicycle-Trailer-Transport-Foldable/dp/B06XFXQ8Y9?SubscriptionId=AKIAILSHYYTFIVPWUY6Q&tag=duc08-21&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B06XFXQ8Y9
If you dig around on amazons various offerings you may find that similar trailer from ebay and there may be some reviews.
I think this may be the ebay trailer on amazon, there are reviews to read( high price so the ebay looks competitive ):- https://www.amazon.co.uk/M-Wave-Foldable-Luggage-Bicycle-Trailer/dp/B001NGD4XA/ref=lp_550015011_1_32?s=cycling&ie=UTF8&qid=1512503545&sr=1-32
and what looks the same but with much lower price and much different reviews:- https://www.amazon.co.uk/vidaXL-Folding-Trailer-Two-wheeled-Transport/dp/B06XCJ9B3F/ref=sr_1_101?s=cycling&ie=UTF8&qid=1512504015&sr=1-101

Re: Bike Trailer
No personal experience of that model. I see no reason to doubt the price. Steel construction, it's no lightweight. Hitch looks fairly simple. I'd anticipate mention in the manual of a maximum towing speed in the region of 10mph.
Keep an eye on your local second-hand market. I picked up an Avenir Mule for £15 a couple of years back and retro-fitted it with a new Burley hitch for £11. A nice big reflector on the back, luggage straps and a cargo net for another £10. Still no lightweight but it'll bring home the shopping.

Re: Bike Trailer
I know a chap who has (for peanuts) engineered himself a fishing/utility trailer by repurposing the remains of a burley, in which the 'tent' was past its best. It cost virtually nothing and works very well.
The e-bay offerings are no carry freedoms, but then they don't need to be for a lot of purposes. For light loads and occasional use they will probably do. Certainly they will do well enough for you to find out if you like the whole idea of using a trailer or not,
cheers

This is an excellent option.
A piece of plywood as a bas held in place by clips works wonders as a cheap "Carry Freedom"

I was planning on doing the same until the Mule appeared at a price I felt unable to ignore. If you can find a suitably tired Burley ... http://www.instructables.com/id/Convert ... -cargo-ca/

I think they bring them over here from China as ballast

Re: Bike Trailer
Hi,
Someone's already mentioned a converted child trailer b4 I got in.
Cheap second hand and just load your stuff on board no need to cut down if its a single trailer.
I pulled two home some months back one on top of the other and hit 30 mph, stable as a rock
Not a recommendation, I would not do this on bumpy roads.
Think seriously about width? a single child trailer is narrow enough to get places and still more than man enough for a good deal of junk.

I have an Ammaco child trailer, that I suppose was cheap as chips when someone bought it. I got it used from a clubmate. It has one minor design flaw (which the trailer linked the in the OP appears to share), which I will explain in a bit, but overall it has been a mule. I've been hauling kids, cat litter, and building supplies with it for around 9 years, and although the cloth is faded and ugly, it still goes well, and went camping with us the last two summers. It's not light, but I honestly could not ask for better durability & reliability, especially given that I have exceeded the 100 lbs max weight on several occasions.
The design flaw it has is that the metal tabs where the axle goes are somewhat flexible & it's easy to over tighten the hubs. My trailer has QRs, which I don't think is ideal for the application, but they have held up well, so I've never replaced them.
