Did you edit the title? That's a bit naughty. Some people find 'pimping' objectionable

What? You’ve never primped your hair in front of the mirror.

And yes I suppose the yoof have massacred the meaning of pimped.

It certainly exists, as a word, with a meaning, even though the Shorter Oxford Dictionary doesn't acknowledge it. I've known it forever, as a rough synonym for titivate. My Scots dialect dictionary has it as meaning to dress smartly, or to 'deck' (that is, I presume, to decorate, not to knock to the floor!).

You've got to love those lazy mothers on mumsnet while DH( irritating acronym they use ) has a cardiac arrest keeping a roof over their head  . Quite unbelievable, to pimp something has a different context here, we aren't talking prostitution as most of the street wise forum users know. We're talking about how to TART up a bike for sale :).

It isn't an offensive expression. You can understand it's use related to it's origins, a woman trading her wares is not going to drum up much trade looking like anne widdicombe rather than kiera knightly. So the OP wants his bikes to stand out from the crowd and have the punters queuing up for them.

Original title updated.

You can see I have rather a lot of spare time today. . . . . . rather beholden to the Gas Central Heating Engineer, if he can be bothered to turn up ( or even forewarn me if it isn't going to happen ).

Don't get me started about mumsnet. Somebody on there is bound to take offence about something on every thread. Cuddly toys & Lego are common ones!

p.s. I can see why some people would take offence at 'pimping', but IMO, TART is worse!

I wonder if they ever say "don't get me started about ctc forum" :) . We should have a mumsnet-ctcforum war then a christmas truce in the spirit of things, maybe have a football match in cyberspace. I cannot stand their charlies angels style logo, three bibendums might be more appropriate.

but it's a totally understood expression. If I said "I've been tarting my house up as I'm selling it", you'd all understand what I mean and not find it offensive( I'd be shocked if anyone did ).

Oily rag. Good for OPs original question and whatever the thread has deteriorated into.

To be extremely pedantic; I really can't see where all this Primping, pimping or Tarts come from... The thread is about "How to make an old frame shine like new ?"
Apart from the bits about Primping, Pimping and Tarting!

It wouldn't be an Americano if it had milk in it.

An Americano is water on top of espresso, long back is espresso on top of water.

I'm a coffee bore in training.

Just getting one of these
