Anyone own/tried one of these currently on sale? Opinions please.

A helmet is a helmet, they all have to meet the required EU safety standards.

What you pay for on more expensive models is looks, the ease of removal and adjustment, plus aerodynamics on certain models. Some have visors too.

A guy I cycle with has just bought one and is very pleased with the fit etc. It doesn't seem to have as much venting as my Bell so if you run "hot" it may be a problem in summer.

I got one and really like it. A really good fit and I compared it with a friend's Rudy Project helmet at many times the price and it was almost identical. Has the same type of dial fit adjuster. The chin strap is a bit fiddly but they all are.

Many thanks for replies - took the plunge and bought one.............very pleased/impressed so far - good, comfortable fit, well-vented, looks good, all-in-all excellent value for money. Would be interesting if the likes of "Cycling Plus" included some of the kit available from Lidl and Aldi when they do their product tests: most of the stuff I've bought has been fine at a fraction of the price of "branded" goods.

Be good if they did a comparison but I guess the problem is that branded goods are available all year round but Aldi only have a one week summer/winter offering......my local Aldi will sell out of most things by closing time on the first day the stuff is in.

Amazing how much Aldi stuff you see on the roads though, as it's that popular you would think they would offer it more often.

Roll on 1st May!

Lidl are currently doing an excellent toolkit for under £20, I bought one a couple years. In the last two weeks I've used it to build two bikes, the chain tool is bit a dodgy but everything else worked fine: caseete and rank tools, cone spanners et al. They are also doing neat roadside tookits for £3 (!) which includes a very useful multitool, dumbell spanner lever. Neat but be quick!

Bought a Lidl helmet for our son (he's just had his 2nd birthday but he's already outgrown his first helmet!). Seems to fit well with the dial, no problems.

However, whilst all helmets are CE marked to denote compliance with EC safety regulations, some are tested to other standards -- it's often said that the Snell standard is more stringent (although I know nothing of the technical detail).

Quite a nice summary from Cycle magazine, written by a helmet testing expert:

http://cyclehelmets.org/papers/c2023.pdf

The Snell standard requires at least twice as much energy absorption than the British and EU standards. There's a table in the above article with the numbers, for those that like them.
