to check the frame number of the bike in question isn't the stolen one?
It's not that bike.

The OP's bike, with the Pitlocks, has trigger shifters on both sides, so it's almost certainly not got an Alfine 8, or any other hub gear.

The alternative would be to refrain from pumping up the tyre until after the wheel was back on the bike. There's no problem getting a flat tyre between even closely set brake blocks.

That's correct with most brakes. Not sure it's the case with Magura though. Either way he'd still need something to undo the pitlocks holding the wheel in.

Frame number is usually a better way of establishing whether its hot or not

It is a T700 with a schmidt dynamo front hub, shimano alfine gearing. Nothing to suggest it is stolen, the owner no longer lives in the UK and his father sold it to me. His father was also selling a women's version of the bike at the same time, set up in exactly the same manner. Luckily the pitlocks are only on the brakes and stem/headset. The brakes ones are loose so can be replaced, the one on the headset is going to be the tricky one. Thanks for all your help.

Also I bought the bike in May 2017.
