at the 20:46 waypoint (near pitagowan), I make it she has covered 650 miles (28,600' ascent) at an average speed of 17.7mph

if her route is 850 miles ? that would mean she now needs to average 13.9 mph for the last 200 mile to break the record. I would guess that is very doable.

wind is not looking good, 7am Mon forcast 22 gusting 26mph NNE

She's got a good bank of time which is good and hopefully get into jog before the headwinds build.

the 00:28 way-point (just past Carbridge) 703.5 miles completed in 40.3 hours

Assuming route length 845 miles needs to average 13.3mph over last 141.5 miles to claim record
(averaged 14.6 over 63 miles to Carbridge)

Courtesy of BikeHike here is the ascent profile so far
Image
quite a lot of ascent to get out of the west country, Bodmin / Dartmoor (70 / 95 mile)
then not a lot until Shap (450 mile)
then Beatock and Pentlands (520 to 560)
Drumocther (665 mile)

It’s a real shame - she was going very well and would likely have set the record.

Sad news, she was doing so well

She seemed to run out of steam 1 to 2 am, never seemed to recover after the Slochd summit, this was long before the weather changed, only averaged 11.1mph over last 60 miles (from slochd) . left her needing to average 15.5 over last 82, and at that point she seemed to encounter her first heavy rain and a north westerly wind would have started to pick up

Wise words.

And of course on this occasion, quite prophetic :(

It feels like this is more of a sleep-deprivation-endurace challenge than a pure riding thing. Less so for the men cos most folks (not all! but most) can ride through 1 night. Keeping going for 50hours is another level up.

That is off course for the best men.....I certainly never had an average speed anywhere near that, nor would cycle for that many hours. (Can't keep up with the Missus now......)

Must be pretty gut wrenching after all the prep and being well on track for so long.

She must be who I saw descending to Cromarty Firth with two escort cars at silly o'clock this morning. If I'd known about the record attempt I'd have worn a hat just to take it off to honour her performance up to then. There's no shame at all in calling it off when the weather gets too bad, but it must have hurt to have to stop after doing so well.
Everyone's ghast should get a good flabbering now and then.
