So not leather, not cloth, not “lavender” purple, but red-brown maroon. Ditto brake cable. Any ideas??

That Brooks 'bar tape looks great, but they've wound them incorrectly.
They should be wrapped so tops are wound away from you. The left hand side in wound towards.

I think “have you Googled it?”should be a forum rule ( but then we’d have a lot less to talk about ) so yes in this case I have, and the leather and the cloth types are the sort of shade was after. Online pictures aren’t always right, and if it’s described as red, it probably is.

Deda Chianti is the best I’ve been able to do, but no joy at all on brake cable.

A lot of people will Google, bit won't hit the images button, which was more what I meant. It can save a lot of visiting sites when all the images are lined up. Just a thought that gives it a different twist for me sometimes.

I agree - we need a mixture of Google Shopping, Images and the general search to find stuff.

The closest I've found was the Deda Chianti Red tape, but I don't like the shade of it. But if the OP is looking for a red-brown tape, it may fit the bill. To my eyes it looks too brown (sort of dried blood red Ok, dried red wine on a beige carpet sort of red ), made worse by the flat matt finish of the tape.

I've bought a few red tapes by now in the quest for a deep rich red. Most recently this one https://www.evanscycles.com/fwe-microfi ... e-EV196312 It's bright red. I don't think I'm going colour blind am I?

My experience is that the colour red is rendered very badly by digital photography, at least in catologue pictures. Just take a look at the variation of reds on show for a red Charge U Bend tape here

I have Fizik tape on the bars ATM. It's bright racing red. This is what it looks like on a web site

I just wish that in this era of overwhelming choice I could buy a red tape which wasn't bright dazzling red. Ok, one that isn't the price of Brooks. BTW, Selle leather Smoo tape in red looked quite promising. I bought that one too. Then sent it back...
