Hi
Whats the deal with tire sizes. I have new front tire needed the old one has the size 26*1.5 35-559 I can find plenty of tires that are 26/ 1.5 but the other number is 40-559.
Cant find any 26/1.5 35-559 combination numbers. Will the 40-559 fit

Re: Tire size!
The crucial number for fit is the 559, which is the rim size. the other number is how fat the tyre is and 40 is a bit fatter than 35
Re: Tire size!
Are you worried about fitting the rim, for which 559 is the critical number, or the spaces at the fork, chainstays and seatstays, for which the 35/40 mm is the critical number? Clearly you need to check your clearances before buying a fatter tyre.
Re: Tyre size!
35-559 is sometimes listed as 26x1.35
Schwalbe Marathon Plus comes in this size

Re: Tyre size!
As explained the critical number is 559. Do be aware though that your rim will have a recommended range of tyre widths. Exceeding that can cause problems. The tyre width is nominal and can be affected by the rim width. As if to confuse things further, some brands, Schwalbe for example, have tyres that are 35c on the label and 37c moulded into the sidewall. All very confusing.
The older I get the more I’m inclined to act my shoe size, not my age.
Re: Tyre size!
OK thanks all. I think I will go for the 40-559 dont sound like its going to make that much difference from the 35-559. Why cant they agree on unified size. I Wonder how many people go out and buy a generic 26/1.5 tire and then get confused when it doesn't fit good...
