Pannier Racks and Disc brakes

Post by StokeLee »

Has any one got a pannier set on a Hardtail mountain bike with a pannier on it that has disc brakes? Ive received my letter of collection for Halfords, and the bikes I was interested wont take a pannier that halfords sell.

I then looked on the net at the Boardman bikes, and the hybrid, but it has disc brakes, so again im not sure about the panniers.

Can any one help me out. I know tis halfords, etc etc, but I dont want to source a bike for the cycle to work scheme at the moment as I'm going to be doing the dougie mac bike ride on may 11th, so i need time to get in the swing of things.

Although there are purpose made racks like the SUPER TOURIST DX F/DISC with a bit of Heath Robinson adapting you can fit other racks

Hi There

Wildoo Limited is the UK agent for Pletscher.

Pletscher produces a special plate for disc brakes so that any of their carriers can be mounted to bikes with disc brakes.

A range of the carriers and the plate can be purchased from us. They are currently not on our website but please email for pricing and vailability.

My Tubus Cosmo, using the Tubus adapter plate, works well.

All halfords stores can order the topeak supertourist dx which is disc compatible as stated in a previous post, I work there and ordered one for a customer who wanted a disc equiped bike.
Ordered from Extra UK - its on the system. Tell them that and they'll think you're a God

It may take a few days to get to store but it will get there and then they can build the bike and put it all on for you.

This came up on a US site some time ago with the answer being a "Disco" spacer...

I don't know if there is a UK equivalent.

My Giant M1 hybrid is lucky to have callipers that are situated away from the frame such that a normal racks fits easily.
