Number of Chain Links

I want to replace my 11 speed Ultegra cassette currently 11 - 32 for a new Ultegra cassette with an 11 - 34 socket range. Will replace the chain at the same time. Question is should I stay with 114 links or should I buy one with 118 links. I prefer KMC chains simply because of the quick links. Am using a 50 - 34 compact and it is an Ultegra Di 2 groupset. Would be grateful for any advice.

Shimano's advice is the chain should be the length for big-big cog combinations plus two links. Buy the chain for whatever that length may be for your bike.

If you count the links in your present chain and add one or two you will get the new length required.

If you don't do that, you may as well buy a 118 link chain; you can always make it shorter if needs be. You will know for next time if that was the right thing to do or not.

cheers
