What do the letters ATB stand for in the cycling world?
Ive been searching for a new saddle for my bike. I keep finding the letters 'ATB'.
A Touring Bike.... maybe
A Tad Boring.....
A Triple Bypass..... I cannot think what it can be for.

Yup, same things. The Mountain Bike was designed for riding down proper mountains in Marin County, California, hence the name.
Since we don't have that many people riding these bikes down mountains in the UK, the term All Terrain Bike was coined.

When my bike was built in the early 80's it was called a mountain bike. Now that mountain bikes have moved on especially by having suspension, I think my bike is now an ATB.

ATB ...A terrible bike....and why are racing bikes now known as 'road bikes' when every bike is really a road bike... even a French onion sellers bike.

Yep, French Onion Seller's Bike.
Seriously Velo Tout Terrain.
I remember skimming through an article in a french bike mag that I picked up in a youth hostel somewhere extoling the virtues of aforesaid velocipedes. My french isn't great but cycling is a universal language so it was still a good read.
What does this 'Velo' mean. It keeps popping up. What is it a cult, a club, an organisation? I bought some old bike bits off of Velo Orange and just thought the name was a sign the owner was a bit strange.

vélo is french for bike, probably with roots from latin or greek or something.
hence why we have velodromes in this country, originating from the same source, at a guess
it's just a posh way of saying bike, when referring to the things you mention above, like shops, magazines, websites, holidays etc.
