Garminconnect not updating Strava-help!!

Hi guys, this is definitely a first world problem, but irritating none the less.
My Garmin Edge 1000 routinely updates Garminconnect.
Very occasionally Garminconnect does not update Strava.
Most times it works brilliantly.
Perhaps once every 20 rides it doesn’t.
The last time was my first ascent of Alpe d’Huez, which I definitely want on Strava.
Help please!

This used to happen to me after a Windows update. I had to go through the motion of installing again but this was not as time-consuming as it sounds. Nowadays, I don't bother and just use 'upload activity' (top right of homepage).

I can't why but is it anything to do with the maps.
Has the route uploaded from the 1000 to Connect?
Does it show up on Connect ?

This isn’t a Windows issue, I’m afraid, I’m an iPhone user.
Normally, I save on the Garmin, and automatically it updates Garminconnect, which updates Strava, automatically, with8n minutes. The connection between the 1000 and Garminconnect works perfectly
Nothing to do with maps or courses either.
Perhaps I should delete the ride on Garminconnect, then reimport from the Garmin again? Any other ideas?

I encountered this problem for the first time today. When I tried to save either a FiT or a TCX file of the ride from Garmin Connect I got a server error message (presumably why it failed in the first place) with a warning about files containing % or foreign characters.

I resorted to plugging my Garmin (Edge 1000)into the computer via USB, locating the original file (in Garmin>Activities either on the device or the SD card, depending on your settings) & importing it direct to Strava, which worked without a problem. I also deleted the file in Garmin Connect & reimported it manually via USB as a precautionary measure. If it happens again I'll try doing a reimport via USB & see if Strava picks it up (I'd done the Strava import first this time & Strava is clever enough not to upload duplicates).

I upload my files from my device using the Garmin Connect Mobile app which I notice was updated yesterday on my phone. I wonder if that is where the problem lies.

I had the same issue yesterday; the problem seemed to be with WiFi upload. I managed to get the ride into GC via the phone connection, and from there I manually uploaded the gpx to Strava.

I had a similar problem once before, and the Garmin was producing gpx files that Strava wouldn't accept. That time, I fixed it with a factory reset of the Garmin. Hopefully that won't be required this time.

Thanks guys, that’s a couple of things for me to check out. I’m not sure my current method relies on WiFi, because it also seems to work without. Generally, it is so convenient, just saving the ride in the Garmin adds it to GC then Strava. Only one button push is required. Let me work on this troublesome ride. My worry is I spend longer sorting the IT than 8 did actually riding Alpe d’Huez in the first place.

I had a delayed uploaded from Garmin Connect to Strava.
GC synced to Map My Ride though straight away so it was certainly Strava related.
It appeared after an hour or so followed by a notification later

Didn't have any issue myself yesterday, got into work and turned on data on phone and hit upload on Garmin and within a few seconds I was getting notifications from Garmin Connect & Strava of a new ride.

I encountered what might be the same problem with a Garmin 1000. RIdes normally automatically appeared in Strava but randomly didn't, for no apparent reason. There was no error message in Strava or in Connect and they both seemed to think they were still able to connect to each other. I disconnected and reconnected Strava and Connect, but that didn't sort it.

I then tried manually uploading the problem .FIT file off the Garmin 1000 and straight into Strava and saw an error message about corrupt timestamps. This allows me to fix and upload individual problem rides to Strava, but it doesn't solve the root cause. Garmin recommend ensuring the software is up to date, but it sounds as if this is still a known issue with a few Garmin devices. It seems to happen very rarely (for me anyway) so it is live-able with.

Not seeing any error message when Connect and Garmin interacted behind the scenes made things harder to diagnose. Your problem may have a completely different cause, of course - hope it gets sorted out!

PS I use the FIT file combiner in the same set of FIT tools a lot more. That's glues together multiple FIT files from rides where the Garmin battery dies mid-ride or otherwise randomly freezes / crashes. So you end up with the single ride you did rather than a bag of bits.

My ride today uploaded to both Garmin Connect & Strava straight away.

I'm guessing there was a problem with Strava's servers. If not, maybe the changes to Garmin Connect (mobile at least) caused some sort of wrinkle that needed ironing out by either Garmin or Strava.

There is a known problem acknowledged by Strava and they said it has occured again today - my run has not got to Strava yet.

Backnotes, thank you, we have the same issue. I will look at what you did to fix. Normally it is live-able with, but this ride was Alpe d’Huez, so I wanted it on Strava.
