Steerer Tube

Post by Shoogle »

Just got my frame and fork back from the powder coaters. The steerer tube is now down to the bare steel. Is it OK to leave it like that? It was previously painted for most of its length.

Hi
This hot weather is an ideal opportunity to treat the insides of your frame tubes (steel?) with a protective coating. Be prepared, there will be a few preferences and home-brews :)
I can't see a problem with a protective primer paint coat on the steerer, just don't be too heavy-handed where the bearings and stem sit (assuming aheadset)

Thanks for the replies. I've just coated it and inside the frame with waxoyl.

Make sure it sets before you re assemble. You don't want the waxoyle dribbling down and contaminating the steering bearings.
