Been to Indonesia a few times ........ but that was in the RN.

One of my old ships was sold to the Indonesians.
HMS Gurkha became KRI Wilhelmus Zakarias Yohannes. Since up for disposal.

Proper British Passports

Why did Gurkha have two funnels and only one gas turbine?

Anything that stops those dastardly Europeans besmirching our sceptered isle eh al?

The EU based pickpocket gangs that operate in Central London preying on tourists who make serial visits here on differing fake id cards was the sort of dastardly Europeans I was thinking of Pete...

Yeah I'll believe you . Thousands wouldn't.

One lot of foreign Johnnys robbing another lot of foreign Johnnys. Win Win for you - the robbers confirm your stereotypes and their activities may put off other foreigners from coming to London.

There is a "measure" of a passport's worth in countries it allows you to access visa free or visa on arrival, called teh "Henley Index"

At the moment ;

1. Japan (191 destinations)
2. Singapore (190)
3. South Korea, Germany (189)
4. Italy, Finland (188)
5. Spain, Luxembourg, Denmark (187)
6. Sweden, France (186)
7. Switzerland, Portugal, Netherlands, Ireland, Austria (185)
8. United States, United Kingdom, Norway, Greece, Belgium (184)
9. New Zealand, Malta, Czech Republic, Canada, Australia (183)
10. Slovakia, Lithuania, Hungary (181)

The worst passports to hold

Several countries around the world have visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to fewer than 40 countries. These include:
100. North Korea, Sudan (39 destinations)
101. Nepal, Palestinian Territory (38)
102. Libya (37)
103. Yemen (33)
104. Somalia, Pakistan (32)
105. Syria (29)
106. Iraq (28)
107. Afghanistan (26)

Theoretically, when we step outside the EU, the UK passport will disappear from the top 10 as the countries of the EU are removed.

They're fine. They can stay. Nothing wrong with proper British criminals ;)

You mean all those foreign criminals coming over here and performing British crimes, which should be the right of British Criminals?

Look on the bright side, now we have left the EU we can now be robbed, scammed, and burgled by British Criminals - another Brexit Bonus

Exactly! Foreign criminals coming over here and taking British criminals' jobs. British criminals only from now on - it's what we voted for. Next time I'm lying dazed on the pavement having been mugged, I will console myself with the thought that at least I wasn't mugged by an 'EU' criminal...

My first passport was a brown carboard affair, valid for 1 year and issued over the counter at the Post Office. They must have been easy to get, I was underage when I got my first one and it wasn't even in my name
Apart from the issue highlighted in the OP, is much going to change? The longest queue always seems to have been getting back into the UK.

Done by scanners these days. When I last cam back in, no queue at-all, just wander up to a machine, put your passport photo page on a glass scanner, wait a few seconds and the barrier open and you're in.

Lucky you
I collected someone from Luton Airport last year, they'd flown back from Amsterdam, took them over twice as long to get through the airport than it did in the air.

I came through the tunnel on a coach via the shuttle in September, going out it took 10 min, coming back 40. No scanners either way.

You couldn't make it up. A bit like the new Brexit party MEP who complained as she left the European Parliament that it was unfair because she couldn't now have a say in the EU discussions.

That's a good question and deserves a good answer.

The Tribal Class frigates had a single screw - landlubbers call them propellors.
One single shaft through a gearbox that was fed by a steam turbine which in turn was fed by an oil-fed boiler.
The other input into the gearbox, was a gas turbine made by Metrovic called a G6.
Both or either into one shaft.
One separate funnel for the steam, and the other funnel for the GT.
The aft one was for the GT.

The idea was, that from cold, the ship could put to sea using the GT, and then the boiler could be flashed up after sailing.
Having a gas turbine AND a steam turbine combined, meant greater speed considering it was though a single shaft.

Go into the future, and the Amazon Class ships had twin screws.
One pair of Rolls Royce Tyne Gas Turbines, and one pair of Rolls Royce Olympus Gas Turbines.
Both of these GTs were derived from aero jet engines, and the Olympus famously powered Concorde.
Each of the two shafts could be Tyne or Olympus, or both, or three, or all four at any time.
One composite funnel.

Further into the future, the Duke Class ships has big diesel generators producing electricity to power electric motors through a gearbox.
The other input was by a pair of Rolls Royce Spey gas turbines also used as a jet engine for fighter aircraft.
The electric and the GTs could be through one shaft, both shafts in any combination.
One composite funnel.

That's not how the e-borders barriers work, they're not automated.

It's just a method for border guards to look at 4 people at once.

Probably had an SSS Clutch then to synchronise, my company used to make them. https://www.sssclutch.com/en/how-it-works/ Very sophisticated devices we sold many to the US Navy. Early in my career I worked on testing the Olympus for Concorde and the TSR2 as well as the Vulcan, never saw a marine version though, that came later I guess.
