No More Extra 9 Months on Passport After Early Renewal
Re: No More Extra 9 Months on Passport After Early Renewal
I couldn't give a toss what colour they are TBH, so long as they're UK passports and not EU ones.
It was "traditional" for the UK passports to be blue, so that's why they're reverting back to blue.
Did I hear on the news that they were blue from 1920something to 1988?

Roughly correct. A different blue. And they could always ha e been blue
I don't give a toss either. But I can't stand the government lies about it all. And as if a colour suddenly made Britain great again.

Yep.
Government spin.
Still, it's good news.
My passport is due for renewal Nov 2022, and Mrs Mick F's a year later.

They've always been British passports. They just had the EU symbol on them to indicate the freedom of movement we had as part of the EU.
The thing to watch out for as per the subject of the topic is that passports issued before the "loss" of extension may have less useful validity in europe from 2021 if not already - you will need 6 months validity but the passport cannot be older than 9 1/2 years from issue when you travel into Europe.
Also from 2021 (I'm not sure the precise date has been finalised), unless negotiations come up with something different (which I think unlikely), you will need to apply online for the ETIAS visa waiver, or get a visa, to travel to Schengen area countries. Note that travel under ETIAS is restricted to 90 days in any 180 day period.

Yes, we now have the freedom under the prestige of our blue passports to stand in the non-EU immigration queues.

Roses are Red
Passports aren’t blue
T’was the Uk that chose this
And not the EU

What worries me most is the way that the truths has again been perverted, and corrupted
Re: No More Extra 9 Months on Passport After Early Renewal
EU identity cards will no longer be valid for visiting the UK. Apparently there are many thousands of fakes circulating in the EU allowing deported foreign criminals an easy way back in.

The EU doesn't issue ID cards. National governments do.
Re: No More Extra 9 Months on Passport After Early Renewal
I originally posted this and am still struggling to find any good news about it. I'll be renewing in July and won't get the extra 6 months I got last time.
I s'pose the only thing to be glad about is that the Govt didn't go back to the old style, which was stiffer and about 30% bigger. It created a nasty bulge when secreted down my trousers.
Of course in reality, the Govt couldn't chose style of the new passport as that is controlled by a international convention, Canada I think. A bit more control relinquished.

Ok, so the EU doesnt issue them but several EU member countries do and we have been accepting them instead of passports. This will cease.

Re: No More Extra 9 Months on Passport After Early Renewal
Back to colour.
I use my passport a lot as in daily for months on end and one of the big worries is mislaying it or leaving it behind in a hotel room. I would think that a dark blue (almost black) paspport will be easier to miss in a pre leave visual sweep, than a brighter red one. Personally, I would have favoured hi vis yellow.
Anyone who uses their passport a lot will know that the writing on the front quickly rubs off. I'm always a bit surprised when I see the gleaming gold letters on people's pristine passports.

Re: No More Extra 9 Months on Passport After Early Renewal
It seems odd to celebrate the 'return' of blue passports as some sort of return to freedom (whilst using a colour that hasn't ever actually been used before, and a small minority of the UK population will have ever even seen or been issued pre-burgundy passport) when the overwhelming majority of regulations regarding design and security features are actually US-led to allow post-911 visa waiver travel.
Returning to the original topic. Well, I guess you could say that if you were a pro tourer then your passport will be full with the front cover coat of arms eroded away well within the ten year validity period!

I have the extra large one. Lots more pages.
It's the full page visas which take up all the space. Thankfully these are becoming rarer and replaced by E-Visas.
I don't travel across borders on a daily basis. Most hotels require to see your passport at check in. Sometimes they also hold on to it to show to to the police when they make their nightly returns.
