Hi,
Only Torbay Can have contraflow cycle lanes to save money and silly signs.

One dear. One more example of short sighted traffic segregation creating more 'hazards' than originally existed. I take it that South Devon upholds a 'wrinkly' curfew outside those dates?

Does it have any legal standing? I thought blue rectangles were information signs, I'd be tempted to ignore it as I do with all those dismount signs.
What amuses me with them is there's no corresponding re-mount sign, so you could do so immediately or still be walking twenty miles later...

I'm confused! Why dismount, and, why specific dates??

Hi,
Not sure google maps are that up to date.
You think they might of used the wide pavement for a shared path.

My guess is that it is the holiday season and the likelyhood of a collision with a pedestrian is much higher. Do they have similar legislation for mobility scooters, I wonder? My mother is a nightmare on one in Sainsbury's.

And mobility scooters KSI more pedestrians than do bicycles. Clearly a new law is needed!

Actually not that uncommon, or nonsensical in seaside resorts

In the Summer it is thronged with pedestrians, elderly and kids, during May to September it is quieter

Any sensible cyclist would be making a similar risk assessment

It's a heck of a long wait till September if you arrive by bike in May.

Maybe Summer comes late in Torbay

You'd hope so, but it shouldn't need a sign, there may be times within the banned period where cycling was perfectly OK and vice versa...

As above. Visiting my parents in a South Coast seaside town during the summer we tried using the shared paths on the seafront and it was a nightmare, even on a quiet day we had pedestrians wandering everywhere, not looking where they were going. I always ride slowly and cautiously on shared paths but it didn't help. It was more sensible and safer to ride on the road.
