Bradley Who? How The Other Half Live...

Post by NATURAL ANKLING »

Hi,
Bradley Walsh, well I have heard of him and seen him on tv but big earner :?
I wonder if HMRC will go after the tax dodgers. As they have pro footballers.
https://www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/7 ... paid-star/

"In the summer the star closed another company Elevenses Ltd, and revealed he paid himself the massive £6 million in dividends. As it was wound up, his accountants discovered he was also owed £570,000 in a tax rebate as well. In total, between the companies over the last two years, Walsh took out earnings of £9.2million."
Oh well...

"TV presenter top earners

1. Ant and Dec £7 million each

2. Bradley Walsh £4.6 million

3. Gary Lineker £3 million

4. Dermot O’Leary £3 million

5. Clare Balding £2.6 million

6. Chris Evans £2.5 million

7. Graham Norton £2.2 million

8. Holly Willoughby £1 million

9. Philip Schofield £1 million"

He's the host of a couple of quiz shows (Wikipedia suggests he's done 1200+ episodes of "The Chase" alone), appears on various panel shows, has had a few main cast roles in big series like a Law and Order and now Doctor Who, as well as some sitcoms, plus he's an ex-footballer who maybe has a bit more sense of fee negotiation than many actors.

I'm not really surprised. Quiz shows and big-name series have always paid better than most things on TV, haven't they?

I am afraid Bradley and the others cited are popular-at least they are so mediocre and anodyne that they manage not to alienate. Most people embrace capitalism, and eschew socialist ;principles in exchange for dubiour freeedoms eg the right to eat Dominos, the freedom to make oneself obese, the opportunity ti indulge in package holidays to Lagoi s ir Vegas oir faro.

We can (well others can) argue about his pay, but I've seen him live (panto, actually) and he is a brilliant entertainer.

Well there's a few names on that list deserve some respect. Gary Lineker got the most goals in one world Cup he played in for England association football team. That's a little more worthy of respect than the b run of the mill celebrity.

Clare Balding is a former equestrian who iirc was an olympian and now is a leading general sports commentator (not football or team sports like that).

The rest are typical presenter / celebrities. If you like them who cares, if not then who cares about that too. There's certainly some ppl who see virtue in being able to signal to anyone who will listen / read that they don't know any celebrities or well known presenters. Whether or not they're being honest there. Usually associated with those who say they don't have a TV or don't watch it.

Personally I care little about them but presenters to get that successful do actually have a talent.

Bad news for you: I suspect you've bought products or from retailers who advertise during his shows.

You're right, she was a jockey on the flat racing scene and a successful one too. Champion lady jockey in 1990. Still, she's got a form of talent like most successful presenters. It's not a job just anybody can turn up and do to their level I reckon.

However does the ability warrant their earnings? Personally I don't believe anyone is worth that much but it's a lot less than other big names in other occupations. £40 million payoff when the business you've run into the ground fails for example.

If you buy a TV licence you do contribute to his riches. Dr Who is on BBC 1.

If you don't watch BBC how do you know about the quality of their stuff?

No license? No iplayer, no radio (IIRC radio licence used to come with tv licence, do you still need tap 3 licence if tv not needed?), no TV? Online streaming services I guess or you're just a bookworm and Internet forum kind of guy? Your choice but do you really know about what you don't see?

Whilst I don't watch many of BW's programmes including Dr who I can appreciate the work involved. The talent involved. I personally write off the programme (after checking it out and finding it off no interest to me) but I don't write off the talent and effort involved so easily.
