Serial Number
Serial Number
Now that I've had my bike powder coated, the serial number has been removed. Is it worth having it re-done? (The serial number, that is).
Re: Serial Number
Removed or covered in a thick layer of paint?
The older I get the more I’m inclined to act my shoe size, not my age.
Re: Serial Number
Well, if it is there, it's well covered in powder coat.

Re: Serial Number
Were it to be nicked and reported to the police, having a known serial number would mean it was "identifiable." Whether that would make a ha'porth of difference is open to conjecture.
Re: Serial Number
If it's a frame producer of any regard the number can help prove its genuine should you ever sell it .

Hi
Option 1) If the bike is either registered on a database or you think that it's likely to be stolen then cut a "window" around the the frame number and then clear lacquer it
Option 2) Mark the frame number in pen on top of the powder coat, and mark the "window" also in pen. This supposes that you know the number; if you don't then why worry

Re: Serial Number
After having a frame powder coated I removed a rectangle of paint over the number so that it could be seen again, and then covered the exposed metal with varnish.
