Too many d..n cooks on telly!

Turned on this morning to watch the news and they ran an intro for a cooking programme later in the day. A b...dy cook was introduced as a 'genius', and apparently he had 'five stars'.Why we have suffered this plague of cooks in recent years I don't know. Anyone can cook! You just slap it in the pan, bung it in the pot, shove it in the oven, heat it up, then put it on the plate. Job done, then you get on with the rest of your life. Why all this fuss? As for the devaluation of the language in relation to cooking-'genius', 'artist', 'masterpiece', 'work of art', etc I can't stand it! Shakespeare was a genius, so was Einstein. Gordon Ramsey is just a b...dy cook!
Rant over!

ROFL....
Totally agree! Dont have a telly, so Im not bombarded with all the rubbish these days. (been telly less now for 8 years! )
Love it how you imagine cooking to be done!

I consider myself a bucket cook as well!
I do wonder that with all the packet stuff available in shops these days, that maybe all these cooking programmes are a bit of nostalgia... you know, a bit of nurture from a past time....
just a thought....
Then again, its a bit like a cook book, you buy it, and read it, and unfortunately you never have the time to use the 3 recipes you liked anyway.

Some of the best stuff I've eaten was as a result of bog standard cooking. In my younger days, out and about on the hills and mountains of Wales Scotland and England, the meals were fantastic when we just opened every tin and packet we had and tipped the lot into a big pot over an open fire, boiled it up and got stuck in. Didn't need Gordon Ramsey et al to present a little lump of something in the middle of the plate covered in some sticky mess then, just tuck in and enjoy. Simple, as cooking is.

I agree, too many b***** cooks AND houses for sale.
Having taken part in some programs and film making I can assure you it's a put up job. Everything is rehearsed and shot several times over. Some of our D.A. riders spent all of one morning shooting a title scene for a regional program. Then they wanted to do it again on a Sunday, No Chance. The final shot which was used lasted for about 10 seconds.
Our Runs Secretary also organised a party for "Escape to the Country". All morning, the result - less than one minute screen time. They were just unpaid "Extra's".

Now, I don't mind watching the odd cooking program....I can appriciate that some of them have a measure of skill and can conjour up a tasty dish. However, when I saw the program "Food Poker" which combines cooking and poker I gave up on the future of the human race..
Still like the Hairy Bikers though.
