How to fix issues with Garmin Edge Explore 1000 and time & distance to go to point?

Hi All,
Firstly please accept my sincere apologies if this has already been answered elsewhere in another thread! I did do a search and I didn't spot my exact issue, amongst the many issues experienced by people, but if I missed an answer in another thread I'm sorry.
My question is about the feature/option on the Garmin Edge Explore 1000 to show both the distance and time to a point when you are riding a course route on the Garmin unit.
The last couple of rides that I had done when riding a course which has been uploaded to the unit have been fine for roughly the first half of the ride whereby it counts down the miles to go until you reach your destination and it also gives you an estimated time of arrival. I find this feature helpful because it's handy to be able to send a message to my family with an estimate of the time that I will be home just so as they know for peace of mind and also it might raise their attention if I don't appear any time close to the estimated arrival time.
Anyway on my last couple of rides when I've ridden a course all goes well until about halfway though my ride when two things happen.
Firstly the distance to destination stops counting down and in fact resets to the figure shown at the beginning of the ride and it shows the total ride distance as if you've not yet ridden any distance at all.
Secondly the estimated time of arrival suddenly increases by hours because it must base this on the fact that it thinks that you have the entire course distance still to ride.
Whilst this is going on the other metrics seem to be okay so the distance ridden keeps going up and the elapsed time of the ride continues.
I just wonder if anyone else has had these issues and if there is a way to save them.
My Garmin Edge is on software version 9.20
Thanks if anybody has any thought, tips or ideas to try!
John
