bike helmet on a plane

Anyone know if you can take a cycle helmet on the plane? I'm only taking carry on luggage so space limited. Knowing budget airlines they will charge you! I guess I could always wear it LOL

I know you can take it in your luggage, but can you carry it on loose? Probably not with a budget airline?

I've had one hanging from my small backpack a few times (Oz, NZ required) no problem with security, etc. That was on scheduled airlines.

My guess is that this is one of those things that will be decided on the day. Presumably it makes your luggage oversize.

As said earlier, you can always wear it, if questioned, say you are liable to falls and it is a safety precaution (my neice has severe epilepsy and wears one). Trouble is, they may then say you are not fit to fly, ho ho.

Bottom line - dunno.

I've flown Easyjet dozens of times with my helmet attached to the outside of my cabin luggage (pannier or rucsac). Never had this question at either the gate or aircraft. I put it under the seat in front of me when on the plane.

I take your word for it. This was what they told me on the phone. Maybe I'll try that if I can't fit in in my cabin luggage. Thanks.

I'm as bald as a coot, and only remove the hat when passing through security or passport control, other than that it's on my head - though sometimes removing it whist on the plane and it goes under my seat.

Wear it and take it off and stow it under your seat. Mrs Mick F puts her handbag under her seat, and it's not a small handbag either!

I definitely don't want to risk it in my soft checked in luggage; probably would not fit in the carry on luggage size restriction.i was thinking of wearing it. It would be particularly bloody minded for anyone to refuse to allow that, seeing as it doesn't hide any facial features etc and anyone can wear any other type of hat they like.

Ryanair let you take a small bag on board, but I've seen people take small rucksacks on board and nothings been said to them. They're very quick to respond on twitter if you send them a private message.
