Hi All

Am I correct in thinking you can use an 11 speed chainset with an otherwise 9 speed drivetrain?

yes but you may have to space one chainring away from the other slightly; the narrow 11s chain only just clears the big ring when running cross-chained, and during shifting is effectively guided onto the small chainring by a dished shape in the big ring. This doesn't always work well if the chain is made wider. It'll run on the big ring OK.

Does that mean a thin washer on the bolts between small ring and spider should do the trick (if needed)?
