I'd say a lot of Caithness is still unlocked-door-safe, though I wouldn't advise anyone to rely on it. A couple of years ago there was a series of reports of doors being "tried" in the late evening, plus the nearest city* is only two hours away for a heavy-footed Toad.

*which may or may not be infested with thieves, highwaymen and dragons of the Here-be variety.
Everyone's ghast should get a good flabbering now and then.

The bit I've emphasised is the key. Not only do motor vehicles give mobility, they are a means of shifting the loot.

I wonder if they decided to make a visit to the town as a result of information provided on a public forum? :?
The older I get the more I’m inclined to act my shoe size, not my age.
