Hi
I'm looking for some wording for a disclaimer to use when I'm leading social rides. Any ideas?

The CTC website has various bits of information for leaders of group rides, some of it a rather depressing reflection on our litigious culture. Whether a blanket statement that individual participants accept all risks themselves would stand up to the lawyers is questionable.

You don't say whether you are leading rides for a CTC group or just with a group of friends.
If you are an officially recognised CTC Section you benefit from the CTC's Organiser's Liability Insurance. Forms must be completed to register for this, however, and all named leaders must be full CTC members. A CTC Section requires all riders to be CTC members after 3 rides. Non members should complete the standard entry form which has a disclaimer on it.
The Public Liability cover provided with your membership will not cover you as a leader if a rider has an accident whilst on a ride you are leading, and decides you were negligent in some way; and tries to sue you. It might not always be the rider themselves who makes a claim, it could be their family, who may not have any loyalty to their relatives friend.

Whilst I have a full family CTC membership I am interested in rides that I might lead for friends and other families. It doesn't appear that my local group organises family group rides.

Ru88ell,
Do you think there will be interest from other local families in your area?
If so, why not approach the local group and offer to lead a couple of family rides to see how much interest there is. Advertise them well,, in local bike shops etc. and you may get a good family group going. If your local group is a bona fide CTC section, and they agree to you doing this, they are able to add you to their Organiser's Liability Insurance. They should already have nominated leaders in this scheme. You may like to have a copy of the CTC Guidelines for runs leaders. I'm not sure whether they are on this site, but if not I can email them to you if you contact me on:
