That's been out 2 or 3 years now. Never seen a review though.

Pretty sure i have seen a bad one.
And i am never going to be putting an expensive bit of electronics that close to an open fire, or even a gas stove/any cooking.

I'd be charging a chargepack at best, I think!

It's been out for a lot longer than 3 years. It works and the company does a range of products related to this using the technology. It works and you use a cable to power up your phone. So you're not gong to melt your phone unless you're an idiot who puts it on top of the stove.

From what I have read from magazine reviews and forum reviews it is a heavy camping stove that burns well because of it fan. It's a bit noisy I think I read in one review but that could have been for another us made woodburner that uses a battery powered fan for efficiency. The fan helps with burn efficiency. It is self powered unlike other fan woodburners. You don't get much power through to your device though.

Overall I reckon it's a gimmick. Much like a MAMILs buying an expensive aero bike when it'll not make much difference for them in real terms. If you've got the money to burn and going outdoors to camp it's your thing then if you want it get it. If not don't.

Personally doesn't do much for me. I'm the stove equivalent of a specialised comp bike owner. Solid, sub grand bike = cheap but works for me. I use trangia, 20+ year old primus or a cheap vango burner. I have no use for this.

That's the final comment on it I think.

The newer version has 3w peak output and a 2600mah battery. So the fire can charge the battery up then you use that when cold to charge your device. That's enough for about a 3/4 or 1/3rd of a full battery.

For the weight and money get a woodgas camping stove. A lot cheaper, lighter and still very clean burn if used right (top down burn iirc). That's if wood burning is your thing.

I was wondering about that - how long your would have to run it to make a decent charge.

I bought one of these last year, cheaper than the price there though

worked well.

I've seen cheaper, £10 iirc. At that price you can't make them any cheaper. Although if you're a MYOG kinda person there's plenty of online information on how to do it. Forums used to have threads highlighting where to get the metal cans, which ones fit into each other with the right gap for the double wall. How to seal it, size and location of the holes, etc.

Then don't get into the obsession of the caldera clone threads. There's a whole thesis on it on one forum.

Actually one stove I've seen I quite like too but can't justify the spend. It's the vargo hexagon wood burner. It folds up intact unlike others that require dismantling. Makes it easier to put up.

Then with it you can get one of the vargo meths burners / esbit hexy tab burners they do so well. Looks like the triad but without the legs and pot supports. It slots into the vargo woodburner stove at the optimum height for the jets. Then I think you turn it over and clip it on to burn esbit tabs at the right height. A neat way to increase the usefulness of the system.
