CTC junk mail opt-out

Post by gadgetmind »

Hi,

Dunno if this is the right part of the forum, but is there a way to opt-out of junk mail from the CTC? I try to keep junk mail to a minimum as it's a waste of both trees and the fuel to haul it around, but there were no opt-out details on the CTC circular I got today regards private health care.

Thanks

1/ It's no use asking on here - this is not an official way of communicating with the CTC.
(You need to contact CTC HQ with queries like this.)

2/ If you find out, let us know on here.

Register with the Mail Preference Service, it will prevent anyone that follows the code of conduct from sending you junk:

Yup, already registered, and with TPS and FSP, but it hasn't stopped the CTC stuff,

Probably all you can do is phone up and ask?

If that doesn't help then selotaping the pre-paid envelope to a paving slab and posting it usually works :)

We're with Mail Preference, and it stops 99% of junk.

The trouble is, if the junk is addressed to you, RM must deliver it. MPS only stops un-addressed mail.

The mailing preference service (MPS) is actually for addressed mail and does nothing for unaddressed.

http://www.mpsonline.org.uk/mpsr/

To reduce unaddressed mail, you need the Royal Mail opt out here -
http://tinyurl.com/m4lbl

However, Royal Mail only represent 25% of the letterbox litter lout problem, so you'll still get some unaddressed mail. Not having anything to do with companies who promote themselves this way is all you can do regards the remainder. (And as for people who leaflet on the street, and shove stuff under car wipers, most of which is blowing litter within 10 minutes ...)

I think part of the problem is how you define junk mail. I think the MPS is designed to stop the postal equivalent of cold-calling. I think it is assumed that you have a satisfactory relationship with your membership organisations etc., in that you want to hear from them on your chosen subject. Unfortunately, when they do this sort of thing - and the CTC is quite cynically sending this junk out under its own letterhead to avoid accusations that they are releasing your details to others - these opt-out organisations are irrelevant.

Oops, yes.

I actually meant "Door-to-Door Opt Outs"

We're with that too!

I called CTC when I got this junk mail this week. I asked for my details to be marked no junk mail and was told this would be done. The Membership Department have a facility for putting no mailings against your membership, but that stops you getting the magazine and membership renewal. According to Julie, who I spoke to at National Office, they can put a no junk mail option on there.

If you don't want to call the 0870 number to do this you can ring 01483 238300 ( I got this number from "Say no to 0870".)

Thanks, I emailed and was told this can be done. They warned that I would also not get special offers such as cheap York Cycle show tickets. Well, as I've been to the show twice and have never needed a ticket ...
