Re: A better tentpeg?
Hi,
I'm not sure this is simply just a trick.
Even if there is a small advantage, the wildly varying conditions every time you pitch mean any gain will simply be lost Especially on soft ground.
In my opinion it's more to do with technique and long enough pegs for the conditions.
One obvious fault with the diagram is that you should always have the guyline less than 90° to the angle of the peg.
If that condition is not met Then there is a force attempting to pull the peg out!

Push the peg in further until the top is level with where the guy emerges under the round wotsit and you have exactly the same effect...plus more peg in the ground!
It looks to me like pseudo-science - the same as cranks with 90 degree bends in them.

However I do agree that it improves those DREADFUL cheap steel pegs with a single bend in them that nearly always rotate under load and spit out the guy. But the solution for those is a proper peg with a question mark-shaped top.

Re: A better tentpeg?
The only real advantage I can see is they mark the ends of your pegs.
So the pegs are more visible.
So less pegs get pulled out by people falling over your guys.
A win .......
