Whilst I'm in no doubt about the family's public exposure as possibly as role models,IMO Andrew (git formally known as prince),has every right to attend his own father's memorial service like anyone else would, whether it be public or not.

Re: The "Royals" Thread
I get my royal punditry from Flunkey in Private Eye. Unfortunately, I didn't receive my copy through the post today.
On the bright side, a correctly addressed greetings card posted to mrs thirdcrank in late January in Kent, arrived today after a mere eight weeks. I blame the queen for this drop in standards at Royal Mail. (Not really. It's more to do with cable knit.)

Unfortunately, still no Private Eye at thirdcrank towers but this rumbles on regardless.
Prince Andrew took £1 million from Turkish ‘fraudster’
(I haven't approached anybody for comment but I'm sure they all strenuously deny any wrongdoing.)
Prince Andrew took £1 million from Turkish ‘fraudster’
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/royal-famil ... fraudster/Prince Andrew was given more than £1 million by an alleged fraudster and is now embroiled in a High Court battle over missing money, The Telegraph can reveal.
The Duke of York and Sarah Ferguson, his ex-wife, received "suspicious" payments on the orders of Selman Turk, a former Goldman Sachs banker, as part of a £40 million international fraud, it is alleged.
The payments included a £750,000 "gift" to the Duke by Nebahat Evyap Isbilen, a 76-year-old Turkish millionairess, who was told she was paying for help with a passport so she could flee political persecution in her homeland.
The first payment to the Duke came days after Mr Turk had won an award at the Duke's Dragons Den-style competition, known as Pitch@Palace, at St James's Palace. Mrs Isbilen has told the High Court she believes the payment was connected to Mr Turk's appearance at the event.

Next up on the criminal front: sentencing due on 22 June 2022. And the perjury charges will be dropped if this proceeds according to plan.thirdcrank wrote: ↑2 Apr 2022, 9:30amFWIWJdsk wrote: ↑6 Jan 2022, 11:56am USA v Maxwell:

Re: The "Royals" Thread
I was going to suggest a competition for the weekend of the most plausible explanation for the payment. But then it was suggested that it was simply a wedding present. And as I'm sure we've all experienced those are very easily mistaken for helping with a passport application. So I didn't.Psamathe wrote: ↑1 Apr 2022, 10:48amFrom his time as UK Trade Ambassadorthirdcrank wrote: ↑1 Apr 2022, 9:00am Unfortunately, still no Private Eye at thirdcrank towers but this rumbles on regardless.

I see that Harry who previously decided to step away from Royal duties has now appointed himself guardian of who the Queen has around her. He's self appointed himself to "ensure ‘right people’ are around her"
Ian
One wonders how this will work. He'll be sitting it California and vetting who the Queen appoints? Or maybe he'll buy her one of those Ring doorbells on Amazon and use remote access to allow or deny people in? Maybe applicants for Palace jobs will be flying out to the US to be interviewed and vetted?https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/apr/20/prince-harry-says-queen-on-great-form-during-visit wrote:Prince Harry wants to ‘protect’ Queen and ensure ‘right people’ are around her

How dare he - when the CyclingUK Tea Shop already has this job??
Re: The "Royals" Thread
He's a self-promoting buttock. It seems to be a genetic trait that runs through the family.
I suspect the motive for this latest stunt was deliberately aimed at irritating Brian and Bill. There seems to be little love lost between them these days. It seems Brenda is past the point of good judgement and is being used (abused) by her offspring for their own Machiavellian purposes.

Re: The "Royals" Thread
I spy another Private Eye reader who may be as disappointed as I am that there's been nothing recent from Flunkey.
I get the impression that the Duke of Sussex has realised that his USP in his new homeland is being royalty. In the recent discussions about trimming the size of the royal family, he has unwittingly placed himself outside the tent, not appreciating the effect that might have in the US. He also seems desperate to big up his status as a military veteran; something which the American public sees as important AIUI.
It's hard to see any role for him in the UK now.

Re: The "Royals" Thread
He is now overseeing who the Queen has around her to make sure only "suitable" people have access to her which sounds a pretty responsible job. I'd hate having some overseas individual who has deserted my family then decide to control who I have around me ... but then I'm not royalty and maybe it's how "royalty" works?
Even more risky when you never know what accusations or revelations he'll come out with on next week's Ophra TV chat show.

Maybe he's twigged about "cash for access" and sees another means to make money? If his Prime Minister can do it then certainly his boss should be able to ...
