That's good - let it all out. You'll feel better for it, no need to bottle up all these negative emotions.

And what on earth did he do for 230 charities apart from having his name on the letter head?

Interesting that you use the plural of the verb, because -after all- those speeches were written for her.

That was an error on my part although I recognise your point. She was, however, well up to speed in the topic involved. The royals are not alone in having speeches written. I've written them for politicians and senior civil servants and later in life had them written for me - at least in part.

Writing speeches is one thing, delivering them without notes is another
Been quite impressed by a couple of politrickians speaking freely

Quite. Reading from notes (as Charles and most of them do) is unforgivable. One thing about Richard Branson is that he speaks - often for long periods- without notes. Most of what he says is drivel, but you listen anyway.

Does he have a hidden teleprompter, who knows?
One reads about great statespersons keeping thousands of people spellbound for an hour or two

I have a more honest approach, done two short courses in fairly tales, can be hard if one tries to learn the text exactly, so I improvise instead

Delivered some training too, learning it from scratch was hard, but eventually it joined up like a chain and was quite easy, one soon learns which jokes do not work

The Best Man at my wedding did a great speech; said all the right nice things, had folk in fits of laughter in places, and shedding a few tears too.
But he did it all from notes - I haven't spoken to him since, the cad.

Completely irrelevant and off topic, but when the title of this thread caught my eye again I realised that "Old Harry" is one of the names of The Lord of the Flies, Old Nick, Beelzebub, Lucifer, Asmodeus.
