Police Incident?

Post by Mick F »

I planned on going up through Upton Cross and Minions tomorrow.

All roads towards a village in Cornwall have been closed because of what was described as a police incident.
Emergency services were scrambled to the area near Upton Cross on Monday afternoon.

Since reopened, thank goodness. Dunno what went on up there.

Have you ever had to change plans due to "a police incident"?

Looks like I may have to divert.

Incident in the sense of RTA, yes.
At the end of a ride, about a mile from home, a motorcyclist had died, when he and a bus had collided.
No vehicles were let past. Luckily I knew of a diversion, through a ford, unknown to the long queue of cars.
It's the same the whole world over

It's the rich what gets the pleasure
Isn't it a blooming shame?

Hi,
Earlier in the year we had a stabbing of a person in a motor car etc, the police closed the sea front torquay road I was cycling along I had to detour in land and up the hills :(
Ended up riding on the pavement at times because rush hour after work and roads were completely blocked buses and all.
I asked the nice policeman If I could walk along the road but No :P

Then on my week tour or it could of been the shakedown before, a month ago, some racer had totalled his car on the coast road to teignmouth, another detour inland up them hills :(

Over the years I've come across a couple of closed roads due to RTCs - being pleasant to the police officers at the closure, and explaining the issue of the detour has allowed me through on each occasion.
I don't take this for granted, and show respect at the actual scene and make sure I don't make an buttock of myself.

Well, we once arrived 'pre-police incident' when we came upon a short queue of traffic.
As we cycled past on the cycle path we came across a motorcyclist unconscious in the middle of the road.
Mrs.Copy had just retired from her post as Intensive Carew Unit manager and took charge of the situation as the chap regained consciousness, whilst motorists called the emergency services.
The police and ambulance arrived almost immediately and very fortunately an air ambulance helicopter was very close after attending another incident.
As the helicopter was about to land, the police told us to move the bikes some distance away, so as not to be blown away and possibly cause damage to the parked cars!

Happy, the motorcyclist was OK and was released from hospital a few days later, having suffered from concussion and a scratched ankle. :D

I once was turned away from the village of Seahouses. That night the national news told me that there was an armed hostage situation. It turned out ok. A few years later I was turned way fro the small town of Rothbury. The Moat gun situation turned out less well.

I had an incident on my JOGLE when heading towards Lochgilphead from Oban. A car had left the road and the police were waiting for the air ambulance, so had closed the road. Cars were sent back, but the diversion was huge. I was not allowed to pass until the driver had been recovered from his car and they could not say how long this would be. Luckily for me, a local dutch man offered to load my bike into the back of his pick up and took me via several off road forestry tracks to rejoin the road a couple of miles further along. He even offered to take me up the next large climb, but I thought that would be cheating slightly. It was one of those moments when you just had to go with your gut feeling, as I was a solo female and the area was very remote.

As a bit of a coincidence, had I tried to go on that ride, I'd have had to have been diverted due to a lorry fire!

Happened at about the time that I'd have been cycling through!

Cycling to work one day (off road route - NCN5) the path was blocked with the blue white "police do not cross" tape with a PC stood there stopping people passing. Had to turn round & find an alternative route. No idea what had happened.
