ACCOMODATION FOR WELSH ROUTE

Post by taffyscouser »

Going to ride from Cirencester to Pwhelli in two weeks time and looking for a good route and accomodation recommendations along the way. Looking to do it in 4-5 days of around 50-60 miles a day. Going light so Hostel, Indy Hostel and cheaper BandB preffered. Any ideas here folks.

Get to Casgwent/Chepstow, go up the hill on the main road cycle track and turn left down a narrow
unclassified road at the top, which is clearly waymarked. After that it is plain sailing to Aber gavenny following the waymarks. Your main problem if you are more Scous than Taff is place names. Aberhondu is Brecon; on that back road it can be difficult if you have forgotten the Welsh place names. ( it is raining in Abergavenny)

That is the southern part of the Lon Las Cymru.

If it goes across as far as Aberhondu there is a first class YHA..

I am not sure about Aberhondu being on the Lon Las Cymru. I shall get my Sustrans map out if I have still got it and perhaps send it on to you.

Brecon's not on the route - it goes over the black mountains to Hay. There's a YHA about 10 miles north of Abergavenny at capel-y-fin. If you prefer to go via Brecon I'd advise following the B road out through Llanfoist to Gilwern, then a short stretch of A4077 to Crickhowell where you can follow a B road all the way to Brecon. There's a campsite and pub at pencelli castle, though it is a bit pricey.

That B road is alongside the canal isn't it? Very quiet and very pretty

Tony AND I are both wrong/both right because Lon Las Cymru has a Cardiff(Caerddydd) spur AND a Chepstow(Casgwent) spur.

If you would like this Sustrans map Taffscouse
leave your postcode here and I shall forward it to you as well as the Welsh tourist board accomodation booklet.

If you want to find information about youth hostels then it might be worthwhile checking the YHA website.
Site: http://www.yha.org.uk/
Hope this helps :D

I'm not sure all of the Welsh YHAs are open through Winter, apart from the National Park ones, another forum member gave me the following link to the Independant Hostels:-

Wales is the most beautiful country in the world, whatever the weather, Enjoy.
