Get one of those folding helmets and you always use it to pad the saddle out if you get a bit sore.

Sandy
Humour varies in the human species from person to person, sorry if I caused offence.

PS,If one is to cycle naked (I've not tried this recently though have motorcycled nude in my yoof)how on earth can one be considered serious, indeed seriousnes in this context should be stamped out at all costs.

PPS,I'm not a member of the CTC and don't comment on CTC matters.

I do wonder if Sandy wants to be taken seriously, what cycle campaigning he/she has done recently.

I've taken part in various campaigns over the years, some very much in the background, some very prominent and some light-hearted. Cycle campaigning isn't all about serious, furrowed-browed campaigning but sometimes about bringing light relief. I still remember with fondness some the japes that I got up to with Roger Geffen in our pre-CTC days (I might be pesuaded to tell all for a price... :D )

The naked bike rides are there to show the vulnerability of cyclists through their nakedness. Yes, there will always be the people who leer and those who don't approve but as a publicity machine for drawing attention to the cyclists who are at risk of injury from motorists, this ride succeeds very well.

There is also the aspect that the next time a motorist sees a cyclist, they may well think "Look a cyclist, remember that one from the ride...." rather than cyclist-blindness that affects some who go onto automatic overtake mode without a second thought for safety (distance/speed).

I had a great time, never done it before the atmosphere was tremendous and for once the car drivers gave us great support :) OK there was one, there is always one that has to spoil the party but what the heck

I wanted to do it but will unfortunately be at a wedding in Manchester on the day of the London ride (my home town) and on a train to Manchester while the Manchester one is taking place...

As for being taken seriously, it's not as important to be taken seriously as it is to be counted and I doubt any other bike ride gets half the coverage that the naked one gets.

The more people on it the more people will see the popularity of cycling...

But it does make me wonder, will the pro helmet brigade be out in force?
