The greatest cyclist of all time by a country mile.

Now we have something / quite-a-lot to discuss and celebrate.

She was a very unique individual.
Much to be applauded and admired.

However her death at 58 years old stands out as premature and tragic.
Perhaps we should put the sadness to one side and celebrate her life achievements but makes one wonder if the 'special' genetics and DNA that gave her the superior natural ability was unfortunately flawed on longevity.

If Beryl were still alive today she'd be 82

No contest.

Did she ever meet Merckx, I wonder?

No idea. I met her, several times. She and SWMBO got on quite well.
Some phenominal performances, and she was a genuinely nice person.

That comes across in the video. There's no 'front' to what she is saying, just plain speaking.

And who remembers Arthur Linton. Born in Somerset to the Landlord of the Volunteer arms in Seavington St. Michael a small village on the old A303, now bypassed. The people across the Bristol Channel claim him as one of theirs.
I'd have been happy with just one of those trophies.
Do they still give mantle clocks as trophies nowadays?

She was pretty good, there’s no doubt, but she wouldn’t even make my top ten I’m afraid.

She may not be the greatest female cyclist of all time but she's certainly in the top one.
