If commercial vehicle drivers were subject to a psychological investigation which would show underlying homicidal tendencies I wonder how many would get a licence?

Is it the continuous driving that promotes these tendencies, or are they biologically predisposed?

A local short journey bus driver was brought to my gate a couple of years ago, by his friend, who explained that he did not like getting in cars off duty.
He said he was totally scatty by the end of the week's work due to driving round and round and round... and round. It takes them the whole of the time off to recover from it. Totally bemused
by everything!

It makes you wonder why the bus companies don't GIVE them bicycles to make the marvellous recovery from life's ills that cycling provides, a change in mode of transport beng every bit as good as a rest.

It may be that present company excepted, bus drivers on short journeys do not have the brain to ride a bicycle to recover. I don't know.

Two Pet hates - the occasional yobbo driver whose actions endanger other road users and the virtuous (intolerant) cyclist who demonises every form of driver.

Cars change people - I find that pleasant, considerate individuals become arrogant aggressive and impatient when they are behind the wheel. This is particularly so in traffic. The mis-use of the modern car is one of the follies of our time. They are larger and faster than required. They appeal to the worst side of human nature. And when did you ever see a car advertisement that showed the vehicle in the true situation in which it would be used i.e traffic - They are always shown in deserted towns or unspoiled empty landscapes. To drive, say, 100,000 miles in a Range Rover is to lug around a surplus of 100,000 tons of material for no better reason than self-aggrandisement.

I sympathise with the bendy-bus haters, though it is the vehicle I loathe not the drivers. They are simply too big for London and the drivers must get very frustrated, some of which comes across in their attitude to other road users. They are the biggest mistake the normally admirable (IMHO) Ken Livingstone has made.

My own nominations for two pet hates;

1. Motorcyclists who use the cycle lanes and ASLs and seem to think that their right to accelerate away from the lights or turn ahead of cars is not to be impeded by the presence of any number of cyclists.

This is partly disappointment, as I once naively thought that motorcyclists would see us as fellow sufferers along the lines of "Two wheels good, four wheels bad." Unfortunately they generally seem to take a more Darwinian food-chain approach.

2. Other cyclists, who overtake at red lights or just coast to the front ahead of the people already waiting, and wonder why I get angry when I have to pull out into the traffic to overtake them for a fourth time. I usually ask if they drive their cars like that.

My pet hates are drivers who crawl behind you then when you look back they have turned right at the last junction you passed
2) Drivers who despite seeing you signalling you are turning right accelaerate almost onto your back wheel then when you do turn right have the audacity to sound their horn at you
3)Bus drivers who start to pull out when you pass them i swore at one who did this and when he put his head out of the window i said to him "Dont do that when you sit your test mate you'll never pass!"
Question now is can anyone top my pet hate number 3?

Mine are:

(1) Most "cycle paths" and similar constructions. At best they encourage bad cyclists to wobble about randomly on both pavement and road; at worst they take away your priority and dump you off kerbs in impossible locations.

(2) Other cyclists. Usually lurching about on pavements or pavements which have been painted green. They generally come at you from all directions, with no regard to traffic priorities.

Pet hates:

Cars in london that overtake just before you get to a set of red lights.

The kid in the back of the BMW 4x4 in Ealing london that shot at me with a BB gun.

I was overtaken by a bus as I cycled through my town AT the 20mph speed limit last week. The driver then topped it by beeping as I entered an ASL ahead of her at a red light.
My response was to ride to the bus station (1/8 miles) where my request to make a complaint was treated very calmly, as if it happened often.

I've also just got round to writing to my local pare about so called cycle facilities. They make my journey so much harder. Dangerous to ride on yet if you use the road motorists tell you off.

Andy Tallis sounds as though he has got his head srewed on to me but

I winder what exactly is wrong with the cycle tracks/routes? What is the nature of the danger,
especially considering motorists seem to think they are ok

If a bus driver cuts you up and you ball him out and he gets stoppy make a note of his pcv badge number and report him to the traffic commisioner as all bus drivers are responsible to the commissioner for their actions when driving a bus make sure you also note the bus reg bus destination and the time date and place the incident took place the tc will take action on matters of this sort whereas reporting said driver to the bus company wouldnt acheive much
