Wrong way round. It's the Welsh and Scottish governments that are dissuading their populations from visiting England for NYE. And France (which had effectively banned UK passport holders from travelling through France to reach their properties or homes in other European countries) have backtracked and are now allowing it.

After watching Morecomb and Wise shows countless times they still manage to make me laugh although I know the next line.
Are there any comedy double acts as good today?

I never found M&W funny in their heyday and their 'comedy' has not aged well at all.Little and Large,Morecambe and Wise,Cannon and Ball,Hale and Pace..all painfully unfunny.The Two Ronnies were probably the best of the bunch but much of their stuff was poor with the odd gem.
I think 'Double acts' are a thing of the past.Thankfully.

Absolutely -- what I find very funny is the height Oliver can get just slipping on a bar of soap. Definitely best double act.

Couldn't stand it. Never did like slapstick, though. OTOH I always did enjoy M&W. I remember when Eric would present one of his plays, with lines such as "...my aeroplane what has crashed over there..." being forced on respected actors. Most viewers probably wouldn't notice a problem with that these days.

Stan Laurel was once an associate of Charlie Chaplin: they appeared together in the pre-cinema days. But I think Chaplin had no time for double-acts - he was too much of an egotist and wanted all the laughs for himself. Although he did famously pair up with Buster Keaton for a scene in the film Limelight - the only time the two appeared together.

I think L&H's A Chump at Oxford was my favourite of their films when I first saw it - though it seems horribly dated nowadays. But then comedy never ages well.
