Afternoon all, Always makes me laugh out loud when I see one of them new fangled "Mini Countryman" things, emblazoned with Union Flags. Many things wrong with them but I'll stick to two for now - (1) "Mini" should read "Maxi" is in the long lamented BL job, great concept, poor build quality.
(2) They're actually built in Poland from German supplied components, so please delete the symbol of the UK!
Oh, well I'll add a third one (3) As they pass all I can hear is the sound of Alex Issigonis spinning rapidly in his final resting place. Bet him & Dr Moulton are having a good old chin wag? IGICB, but without a car, MM

You only need to go on any motorway,or road for that matter,to see you are in the minority there
I've tried to hit 70mph on my bike but not come close yet.55mph on a bike feels a lot faster than 100mph does in a car.It's sort of a scary but good buzz Must be a real buzz for the Pros who can use all the road going downhill

Plus, They look awful, the body design was obviously done by the same team that styles
Porsches, brutal, ugly and unsightly, nothing like the proper Mini, a design classic in so many ways.

I had a couple of Maxis, brilliant cars, never let me down in more than 100,000 miles. Followed that with a couple of Montegos which were brilliant and reliable too.

My youngest brother had a MG Montego Turbo in the early 90's.Was fairly quick in it's day but handled poorly and the Insurance for a(then) 20 year old was astronomical

Dual use of land is the future, solar panels and grazing for example. In hot climates the the panels shade the ground and stop loss of moisture by evaporation. In Scotland?

We're a British SME that supplies OEM mini components for several iterations of the BMW mini. We're not alone by a long stretch. I think you'll find that a lot of European made vehicles b use components made in the UK. Prior to Brexit started to get serious it was a successful sector. Then there's aftermarket too.

During the first ER protest in London our local group did a march through town. Funny thing was that most banners were relating to job disputes, union activities and labour agendas. It was more a socialist and union march than climate change march. I wrote that off as not being ER. However I do wonder if there's an overlap between socialist campaigning and ER campaigning. Are there any big links between the two or is ER across the political spectrum and from across society as a whole?

Wherever you shade the ground you get poorer plant growth. Certainly with grass you do. This idea of having good grazing under solar panels is bunkum.

In Wales maybe but many hot countries have trouble with soil losing moisture, the panels might be 5m above ground, there could be panels on the underside too to use light reflected off snow in the winter, didnae make that up, just read it in a Serious Journal

The panels could catch the midday sun but let light through morning and evening, stops the plants getting scorched, Plus One!

Seems the sort of thing the NCAT near Machynlleth might be trying

There was a campsite in Belgium we spent a night at with huge solar panel arrays. Camping in places was underneath them but only three caravans, campers and motorhomes. However the campsite had a weird air of having gone downhill or being out of date or underused. It was July and dead compared to other sites nearby. Possibly related to the panels being installed.

We have a few solar panel arrays locally and while I can see how they make sense on flat sites, the ones plastered across hillsides look awful.

Actually Porsche is part of the Volkswagen group. The team that does Porsche design has nothing to do with either BMW or Minis.

The new Mini was designed by Frank Stephenson, who has worked for lots of automotive companies, but never AFAIK Porsche.

The Countryman version was done by the same platform team as the BMW X1, so also not Porsche.
