Is anyone doing Round the Harbours on 8th June or is it too tame for folk on here? Me and Him are going but I can't find info on the route and the BHF website is awful - can't register or pay up front. Does anyone here know what the route is so that I can warn Him or say nothing!!

My wife and I pioneered this route when it was part of the Gosport (and other Council's BikeWeek.

The nature has changed, but the ride is still fun!

The route may have changed slightly, but..... starting from Gosport

Bay House School along Stokes Bay to Gosport Ferry
Along Portsmouth Seafront to Hayling Island Ferry
Up along the "Hayling Billy" and into Havant.

From Havant there is the long climb and then undulating Portsdown Hill before proceeding back into Fareham at Cams Hall and back into Gosport via Stubbington.

If the weather is clear, the views from the hill are stunning and worh the climb.

There are bottlenecks at the two ferries, more so at the HAyling ISland.

Thank you for this helpful detail. Is the route on main roads or is it relatively traffic-free? I have tried to locate some detail on cycle route mapping but the map is so small that it is hard to get an overall view of the entire area. I like to have the route in my head before I set out - it saves a lot of faffing around while on the bike. Thanks again,
Yoyo

I am Gosport based, but you can follow the route from any of the starts, and you will get maps on the day.

Stokes Bay is a fairly busy road, as are the Portsmouth ones, the Hayling Billy is off road, and leads into Havant. Portsdown Hill is busy, but trafic is not too bad.

The run down through Fareham and into Stubbington is normal traffic, and off road / light roads between Fareham and Stubbington.

The only real hazard I think is crossing the Hayling road between the Bridge and Havant!

I've just registered online for this, and found the BHF site ok!
I'm looking forward to this weekends ride - my first BHF ride for 2 years.

I'm now unsure after cunobelin's comments about 'off-road' if this is properly 'off road', and requires something other than a racer?

I'll be there early, probably starting from Havant, as it's closest to me, but I'll enjoy the day whatever the weather.....hope you both have a good ride too!

UPDATE*
Enjoyed the ride, just over 3 hours, and met many fine cyclists....Hope you had a good day too!

Well we did it in three hours. Bedhampton Hiil was a doddle and so was the rest of Portsdown Hill. The Berkshire hills must be hard - even MrYoyo laughed at how easy it all was. Fabulous weather too. Thanks for all your help everyone.
