Here's a thought....

Post by reohn2 »

... does anyone think this pandemic is the kick up the pants humanity needs to get it's backside in gear or when we get back to 'normal*'.
Or will it all be business as usual pig troughs and gravy trains.
Waddayathink?

*normal of course being a relative term in whatever normal you perceive as normal

I sincerely hope that lessons will be learned after all this dies down (not the best use of words - sorry).
If something drastic isn't done re-the NHS after all this, then there's no hope for anyone.
Hopefully, people will be a bit more caring and if nothing else, will perhaps manage their health and cleanliness better.

But we're talking about human beings here and I'm in no doubt there will be those that will continue to abuse any system whatsoever and consider their own egos enough to disregard the rest of society at large.

Not very optimistic am I.

It'll be back to normal very quickly indeed.

I believe that it is a kick in the pants for humanity and a long overdue one too. Will things be back to normal later? Well we will have to see what is left later but there almost certainly will be a recession and reduced consumption. Working from home would have been thought impossible but is now the norm and so is not going out much too. Whilst out on my exercise ride today I saw few people and next to no traffic. When we emerge from this crisis people might just be asking themselves why they do some of the things that they do and whether their life could be arranged differently.

I’m hopeful that air travel (with all its pollution) will be massively reduced and that local communities will flourish again. I normally shop elsewhere but am glad to have also supported (and so kept alive) my local shops, they are essential to me now.

Business won’t return to the same as usual, too many of the normal ways of doing things have had to change, but it will return in some modified form.
Don’t fret, it’s OK to: ride a simple old bike; ride slowly, walk, rest and admire the view; ride off-road; ride in your raincoat; ride by yourself; ride in the dark; and ride one hundred yards or one hundred miles. Your bike and your choices to suit you.

With regard to pig troughs it is indisputable that a large proportion of the population need to improve their lifestyle and it very apparent to me how many more are walking since the outbreak. Most of them are families and dog owners so I don’t think it’s all down to people who can’t attend gyms any more. Along with this however comes panic food buying so the big question is will the health of the nation improve or will the easy access to bulk food outweigh the exercise gains!
The older I get the more I’m inclined to act my shoe size, not my age.

Cycling in my neck of the woods has increased quite a bit.
As a result more people might appreciate the beauty and practicality of the bike, which could, when things get back to 'normal', have a positive effect on cycling in general from people who will no doubt start to drive again.

Hi all, When it comes to riding two abreast only tricyclsts get near to Social Distancing! (Especially so when employing hefty rear wheel nuts, oh th sound of pinging spokes)
Only the fact of a lot of us oldies on pensions popping off will offer any change for the poor practises which far to many employ, waste, sloth, bad diet et al. TTFN MM

It will be back to business as usual and the current walkers will flop back into their cars as soon as possible.
Hopefully people will be even less trusting of politicians and despite the unionist claims that Scotland's health service is a basket case many will have noticed a difference in that there does not seem to be the chaos up here as in other parts of the UK.

Speak for yersel! I am often someone else and have a number of such with different characteristics suitable for all and every occasion. There are bad ones, good ones and every-ones in between. Also some off ata tangent.

Let us do away with the foolish notion of a single, integrated and coherent human personality resident in each so-called "individual".

Cugel Mk LXII (for now).

PPS why does the Cugelmeister think himself immune from these effects? There is no immunity from the virus, after all.

Ha ha - I don't think I'm immune. The bluddy thing and it's effects on other human psyches is driving me nuts!

If I get the virus itself I naturally hope to just cough and moan for a couple of weeks then be all healthy again. On the other hand, if it kills me .... I won't know so won't care. There'll be no me to do so. The ladywife will be bereft (I think) but I am encouraging her to find other hobbies to replace "managing a Cugel".

If it gets her I will go into total meltdown and blame the world and everyone in it, including you! So watch out. An irrational Cugel will be very irrational, seaguing into "amok".

If lockdown thing goes for six months or more, the country will be on its knees.
If we thought Austerity was bad enough, the western world economy will be almost wrecked, so we ain't seen nothin' yet.

If we ever get back to whatever normal WAS, it won't be the same again for decades.
