just bought a couple of pairs of these tyres in 700x28, they look good arev cheap-ish (£30 for 2 from bike plus) but christ are they the hardest tyre to fit ever ...or is it me?

I used 700by38s o my Thorn Club Tour and found them easier to get on and off than Marathon pluses, but then that's not saying too much. I'm assuming you've tried the usual lubrication and whell well tricks.

I don't remember struggling too much when I fitted them to my Super Galaxy.
2500 miles later, I haven't had to remove them, if you know what I mean, and for most of my recent riding, a Cross bike might have been more appropriate.
Great tyres.

I've never had any trouble with panaracer pasela, but panaracer crosstown were a pain to get on I'm dreading the day I get a visit from the fairies as they say so far so good

Never had a problem with Paselas either. You sure your rim is a good match?

the rims are DRC classic 18mm, also fitted a pair to some mid 90's Mavic's again 18mm pigs to fit on both? I have pinched the tube twice fitting them and had to remove and fix and refit...a real pain ...I have never in 25 years of cycling had this trouble and have fitted all types of tyres to all types of rims, I really don't fancy having to fix them if I'am out on them I can tell you!

Hmm, odd. Had some real baddies on narrow section tyres and rims but not 28s. Only thing to suggest is give them some serious over inflation when/if you do get them on to ease things in for next time. A pair of small section screw drivers can help as a glide to throw the tube over but you're in desperate straights by then.

I will report back at some future point as to punctures, wear, grip etc, but I must say Bike Plus are spot on service wise... I ordered at lunch they were here next morning!

I'm surprised at the difficulties that you have faced with the Panaracer tyres. I fitted mine without the use of levers and have also managed to remove one side of a tyre to fix a puncture without having to use levers - I'd forgotten to pack them in my saddle bag.
I've found their piuncture resisitance to be very good and have worn a rear tyre down to the canvas without mishap - not somehtingn that I'd recommend for peace of mind.

Hi Vernon, not half as suprised as I was fitting them... I can usually fit pretty much anything as you say without levers(16 years in industry/engineering gave me a grip of steel-ish)...anyway checked the shed today and found another had deflated so I went to Halfords got their own brand 700x23-32c tube at £4.99 and fitted it using a crankbrothers easy-on lever thingy I also bought what a tool ...just buy one I will never leave home without it at least when on either of the 2 bikes fitted with these tyres!

I use Paselas, on DRC ST 19s, I can get them on AND off without tyre levers, just shove the beads across into the centre well of the rim to get some slack.

I've just removed a worn out Tourguard and replaced it with a brand new replacement tonight. Still no tools needed.
