Which "tourer" for a daily commute?

Commuting, Day rides, Audax, Incidents, etc.

Hmmm, I can't really comment much on the choice of frame materials I'm afraid, I've only ever really used Al framed bikes and never had a problem with any of them being unduly harsh. My Allez shook me about a lot more than the Explorer, but then it was built for speed, not comfort! This is the first proper tourer I've owned so I'm probably not that qualified to comment. I'll try though!

I've had no issues with comfort on my Explorer, I'm not sure how much of this is due to the double butted Al frame, the butted cromoly fork or the 700c 32 tyres at a relatively low pressure of 70psi. Either way, after I changed the saddle, I've found it fine for relatively long distance commuting (52 mile round trip), and hopefully will one day use it for touring in which case I'd be happy to spend all day on it. Not something I'd want to do on my Allez.

HR director thinks it's a good idea and in line with our principals / motives, ties people to the org, shows org wants to support its people in heatlhy lifestyles and lowering their carbon footprint. Finance director thinks it is a good idea as it takes pressure off limited car parking on site and again thinks it is in line with organisational place in the world. Various people think going with a workers co-op is sound. Idea sold, and there are people in a queue behind me to get their orders in.....
