First Post on here so hi and hope you can help. Some advice please if anyone can help. I have been commuting to work for 2 months as job change means closer to home. Its 12 miles each way. Been doing it on mountain bike (whistle miwok 1163d) but its hard going as its heavy. Also have a carrera zelos road bike which is better but elbows are suffering a bit. Thinking of going down the hybrid route. Just unsure of which would be best. Thinking of either
1. Specialized Crosstrail.
2. Specialized Sirrus.
3. Cannondale Quick Cx.
4. Boardman Mtx 8.6.
Thinking something with front suspension (I know the sirrus doesn't have that) but want something more like a road bike but a bit comfier. Looking around the £500 area and can use the cycle2work scheme to bring this down.
Anyone have any other bikes in mind that might do the job?
Thanks in advance.
Terry
Advice on next bike
Re: Advice on next bike
Hi Terry, welcome
Can I make an alternative suggestion?
Most people I think would prefer to do a 12 mile commute on drop bars; front suspension is not needed on road; and if your elbows hurt on the road bike then its a sign your riding position is wrong.
Painful elbows and looking for front suspension lead me to think you have too much weight on your hands as your road bike is currently set up.
Read my DIY bike fit stuff linked by my signature; to take weight off your hands you need to move the saddle back (yes BACK) and you may well need a shorter/high rise stem as well.
Try playing with your position on your existing drop bar bike; most people can get comfortable on drop bars with a little guidance and perseverance, and if you can find a comfortable position on your existing bike you can commute on that for a while, and maybe look for something with full-length mudguards, dynamo lighting and luggage capacity in the autumn. If you really can't get comfortable on your existing drop bar bike, then that's a very valuable thing to know and it won't cost a fortune to try different positions.

Re: Advice on next bike
Thanks will have a look at your posts and try out a few and see. Thought a commute on a hybrid with suspension would have been a better option. But will try moving the seat around.
