Friction Shifter Quick Question

Post by johnweightsen »

Hey, can I use the front shifter (bar end, downtime etc) if it is friction operated for my rear derailleur?

Is the answer- "yes, but you may not be able to move across your whole cassette"..?

Has anyone tried the front shifter from Dura Ace 7900 bar end to move across a 10 speed cassette?

Thanks.

if it has the full range of physical cable pull as the right/rear then can't see why not, you can easily see how much cable is pulled and if this is enough for the cassette/derailleur type.

Simple bodge to increase cable pull in this recent thread. Slip a length of electrical wire insulation over your cable to increase the effective diameter of the shift lever.
I used the insulation from some twin and earth cable. Other colours are available.
