Back to the original subject: I did a familiar 14 mile round trip to a favourite pub in glorious sunshine yesterday, early evening. I would say that there's no doubt that the roads were a lot quieter than usual. I'm all for fuel shortages, just so long as the beer delivery truck gets through

It's usually due to families going abroad on holiday, taking the kids with them.

It means those who aren't going abroad get into work faster and the 25% or more less traffic means the traffic flows better.
