Is there EBB or other solution for 51.2mm x 68 BB shell

Hi, Looking for a bit of advice, I've picked up a frame which has never been built, i think i now understand why.

Its a Ridgeback Flight 04, and the Bottom Bracket shell has an ID of 51.2m and width of 68mm.

Designed for an EBB insert, there is no grubber screws holes on the shell, so it is presumably a wedge type EBB insert, similar to the Cannondale/Bushells. (which look like they will be too big to fit)

It came with a new EBB insert (Thorn, i think, not sure exactly which one) but its 51mm OD and 68mm and fits great, except that it requires the grubber screws to lock it. so its not going to work. (spare now, and very slightly marked form where its previously been tried to be fitted via the cable guide bolt hole - luckily not ridden!)

does anyone know if such a EBB - 51mm OD, wedge type exists after market, a google search is coming up with nothing.

or alternatively i'm not hugely precious on keeping the EBB, so is there an alternative solution anyone knows for a 51.2mm bottom bracket shell unthreaded?

I get the feeling this one could end up in the cellar for a while. I ended up with one of these on a holiday a few years ago and found the long reach really comfortable, was looking forward to seeing if it rode well with drops.

Any help much appreciated,

Nick

Is there space for holes for the grubber screws to be tapped in?

There would be yes, but i'm not sure just tapping the holes will be enough, it's alloy frame and the holes would probably need to be re-enforced around the hole. Its an option, but feels like an expensive mod, and one i'd rather avoid.

Other mods to be considered are to get a 54mm EBB insert wedge, and either
1) ream out the bottom bracket shell, i've not measured the wall thickness, at the moment i think this is best avoided.
2) reduce the diameter of the EBB insert to fit. - this i think is probably my best shot of a mod if i go down this route.

Hi All,

Think I've found an adaptor that will fit. just wondering if anyone had any experience of using a,

TruVativ Bottom Bracket Conversion American-to-Euro Adapter

https://www.harriscyclery.net/product/truvativ-bottom-bracket-conversion-american-to-euro-adapter-1335.htm

Can't see why it would not work, and looks like a sensible design, at £15 not a huge loss if it turns out to be made from playdoh.

Thanks,

Nick
