Alfine SG-S500 under the RH bearing race.

Post by Jupestar »

Hi,

I’m trying to recover another Sg-S500 from my donor hub.

I’ve taken apart my mates hub after bike shop couldn’t fix it. Nothing left to lose...

Anyway the parts are smashed under the RH bearing race, and the bearing race and cup were not even present, bearing were just loose. Makes me think someone made had a go at it with the wrong tool.

(Broken parts right row of the photo). I’ve got them all out I think. And identified the pieces I need from the Donor Hub.

But it not intuitive to be what order they need to go back on as they were smashed when they can off. In particular the piece at the bottom which I can’t even work out which way up it needs to go. I can see from my good one, that the piece below the spring in the photo, needs to come out to the left of the RH cone, and this will enable the Cassette joint and parts below to fit, which they were not doing before.

The EV on shimano website doesn’t go into this detail, which is making me think I might be fighting a lost cause.

I could take apart my good one, but I don’t particularly want to risk it as I don’t have the cone installation tool..

Any help gratefully recieved... I’ve got a pile of donor parts for sg-s500 I can offer (Never again after this one)...

This feels right - as in the pieces mesh and I feel like I have the bits I need showing. For the cassette joint, but I’m not 100% convinced on it..
