Racks for MTB's and bikes with disc brakes

Post by biking-geordie »

Hi, just re-joined CTC after 25 years away. Noticed on one of the technical papers that using MTB's as touring bikes is advised against because you can't fit front or rear pannier racks. Wrong!

Old Man Mountain in the USA ( www.oldmanmountain.com ) make a rack which is supported by the wheel quick release (a longer QR skewer is supplied with the rack) and fixed to seat stays or forks via 'P' clips in the absence of brake bosses. They will comfortably carry a load of 40 - 50 lbs and are infinitely superior to the cantilever racks which clamp onto the seatpost.

The racks will even accomodate bikes with disc brakes and full suspensions.

They can be bought via Carradice in the UK ( www.carradice.co.uk ) .

The build quality and overall finish is absolutely superb.

I have nothing to gain from posting this message other than seeing more people touring on MTB's - Something which I have been doing for more than 20 years.

Just thought I should let you know.

Pete.
