swapping brake blocks

Post by eoi2621 »

1954 raleigh which has vintage type rubber brake blocks fitted . These need replacing can i fit the longer modern 70mm instead (26" steel rims ) Or will it not improve things enough to bother (just buy new vintage style ones ) I realise main problem is ancient steel rims but new blocks are cheap :D

I tried longer brake blocks once and it made no difference. I guess as the surface area grows the pressure decreases ?

I was recommended (Brucey) the pictured blocks and they are fantastic on my Carlton with steel rims. Fibrax SH297. Robert.

As a rule of thumb: "Yes".

(There are possible effects that would make this invalid but they just don't seem to be very important in practice.)
