Beware - Shortage of LBS Bike Boxes

This probably won't be a problem for many people, but.....

I was in my LBS today and mentioned I would need a bike box in October. I was told to get one now because as there is shortage of new bikes, so there will be a shortage of the boxes they come in.

Obvious I know, but thought it worth a mention.

Here in the US at our shop we have been "hoarding" bike boxes for that reason!

good point. The thought has crossed my mind a few times when seeing empty boxes at a few bike stores....but realistically, I ain't going nowhere for a long time, not by plane anyway.

I've had to sell some bikes as collect only as I can't obtain bike boxes.

Or if the airline doesn't mandate a box then use a CTC bike bag or similar.

Also to mention when flying back I've sometimes had to make do with a patchwork of cardboard and lots of packaging tape and not had a particular problem getting the bike through check in.
