And the Secretary of State this morning:
“I can now confirm that no Assembly election will take place in December, or ahead of the festive season. Current legislation requires me to name a date for an election to take place within 12 weeks of 28 October and next week, I will make a statement in Parliament to lay out my next steps."

Re: Breaking International Law
I think this appeal should shed a light on the deep feelings held by some about the position of NI within the UK.
As many others have pointed out for trade purposes NI is in a very advantageous position but that's not the uppermost consideration in appealing against the protocol.
I think this is true for others who also wanted to leave the EU. The cost financially was less important than the vision of total independence from the EU.
Before anyone starts to point out the error in their thinking the reality, let me say I understand that but since 2016 I've tried hard to find one factor that swayed people's vote.
I don't hold their views but each had their reasons for voting as they did.
If we can get rid of the loony lot running the country then maybe we can be pragmatic enough to agree to some EU rules whilst still enable us to say we govern ourselves.

...
The weirdness of the situation is illustrated by HMG resisting this appeal while legislating to overturn parts of the Protocol.

A shortcut has to be a challenge, otherwise it would just be the way. No situation is so dire that panic cannot make it worse.
