Hello all -- I'm writing from a cycle touring company in Madrid, Spain, and I was wondering if anyone knew of any universities in the UK which have initiated bike-friendly campuses or policies (bike lanes, bike rentals, extra security, etc., etc.,...)
Thanks in advance for your help.

I was at university in London a LONG time ago. No facilities then; I doubt much has changed in the interim.
The C+ forum has a fair amount of current students who are regular contributors.
They don't usually show up on this site until they have experienced "life" a bit more!
They have just found cycling and think they are the only ones who have ever experienced the joys of it, a bit like teenagers and sex!

They say there are more bike accidents in Oxford
than... well i don't know than where, but very high.
It is a bike friendly university city!!
York totally bike friendly! Cambridge quite good again. YORK is best!
There must be a list somewhere giving ratings and things of differing universities and Uni cities
London has such a huge University population it is very difficult to quantify. 150,000 students or more.... and how many universities themselves today?!

Dundee is starting to get its act together and now has a Green Transport Plan with quite a bit of involvement from the Bicycle User Group.
On Thursday there's a "Green Travel Day" at the Student Union and folk will be able to sign up for a draw for a prize donated by the local cycle shop, but to qualify they'll have to come on Saturday's organised ride. Being a local cycle training volunteer I'll be helping to lead that...
The plan has also involved quite a few new lockers for bikes around campus and genuinely useful stuff like that, rather than painting some of the roads red.

Thanks tons for your help!
Pete, a question for you: Who was responsible for taking the initiative to develop such a campus - the uni authorities themselves, or the students? Would you happen to have any conctact information for them, or the name of someone I might be able to talk to?
Gar, I haven't found any ranking or information like that, but if I do, I'll pass it along.
Thanks all for your immensely useful help!

Patricia, the council and university Powers That Be are working on it together with a fair bit of feedback in both directions. The council have an obligation (whether statutory or self imposed I don't know) to promote "green travel" and as one of the town's biggest employers it makes a lot of sense to concentrate on the university.
Nothing much up from the students AFAICT, though the staff-centred BUG have been pushing and helping things. email me at p dot j dot clinch at dundee dot ac dot uk and I'll forward anything to someone relevant for you, rather than give out folks' addresses here without asking them.
Pete.

When I was at Dundee uni my friend had his MTB thrown over the railings at the back of the Tower building (still chained to them..), and then some tink nicked the front wheel off his ancient tourer...
