A friend of mine said he was told by the bike shop that his Specialized Top of range Sirrus has trimm facility, I thought that the trimm facility was only on road bikes with drops?

Is he correct

there are 'road' series flat bar shifters which also have trim clicks. IIRC these are the one usually fitted to Sirrus models
